Public Affairs Programs
Saturday, March 18, 2017
President Trump sustained crushing blows over the last week in two federal district courts to his efforts to impose a pause on the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program and a temporary ban on travel to the United States for persons possessing travel documents from six predominately Muslim countries. Nonetheless, that subject is not likely to receive a lot of attention during the March 19th network and cable Sunday morning public affairs programs.
The big subjects that are likely to dominate this week's editions of the Sunday morning programs are attempts the House GOP's bill "repeal and replace" the Affordable Care Act, the submission late this week of President Trump's Fiscal Year 2018 budget "blueprint;" and the burgeoning investigations in Congress and in the Department of Justice of yet-to-be-substantiated charges that there was collusion between associates of then-candidate Donald Trump and Russian intelligence officials in an attempt to impact the 2016 presidential election. Among the headliner guests who can be expected to discuss those three subjects are Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price; White House Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney; Senators Rand Paul (R-KY) and Tom Cotton (R-AR);
Given the recent court rulings on President Trump's refugee admissions/travel ban executive order and the complete guest lists on the March 19, 2017. Sunday public affairs programs, however, there is likely to be a least a bit of discussion about immigration and refugee matters, as well, during the programs. Among those appearing on this week's programs who might be expected to address those subjects are House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Representative Joaquin Castro.
A sneak peek at the guest lists for the upcoming March 19, 2017, editions of each of the five major broadcast and cable Sunday public affairs programs appears after the jump, along with previews of the likely or possible discussions on those programs about immigration and, refugees.
